Kristen Lo teaches Theatre 1-4, Dramatic Literature in Performance, and Shakespeare in Performance, and directs the main-stage shows for Gunn Theatre. She is a Gunn alum and received her BA in Theatre Studies and Biology from Emory University and her MAT from Brown University. Post East Coast education, Kristen returned to the Bay Area and immersed herself in community theatre while teaching and directing. She has acted and directed at Palo Alto Players and The Pear Theatre; some of her favorite projects have been Belinda in Noises Off, Lisabette in Anton in Show Business, Maggie in The Man Who Came to Dinner, and directing Death of a Salesman. She also served on the Palo Alto Players Board of Directors for 9 years. Kristen is honored to lead the program that meant so much to her in high school.
Jennifer Ellington (Gunn Stage Tech Teacher) has been teaching drama in California public schools for almost three decades. She currently teaches at Gunn High School and Fletcher Middle School. She majored in Theatre Arts and English at Santa Clara University and has participated in stage productions for most of her life. Favorite roles include Shelby (Steel Magnolias), Jessica (The Merchant of Venice) and Brooke (Noises Off ). In addition to founding the 888 Monkeys Circus Camp for children, Jen runs half marathons and competes & coaches equestrian vaulting.
She hopes to run a race on every continent — 3 down, 4 to go!
Chris Mahle (Gunn Stage Tech Teacher) has been teaching in California schools since 2007 and a teacher at JLS Middle School since 2011.Outside of school, Mr. Mahle performs and collaborates in theatrical productions with his wife and son (former Gunn Student, Max) on children's shows and adult productions at The Pear, Palo Alto Players, Los Altos Stage Company and Los Altos Youth Theatre. He’s appeared in productions with his school colleagues, including The Man Who Came to Dinner, and Twelfth Night. He’s also starred in productions of Chinglish, The Play that Goes Wrong, Noises Off and Misery. His greatest joy is getting opportunities to work with his former students on local productions and seeing them onstage in professional touring productions and on Broadway.
Paul Dunlap teaches the English/Theater interdisciplinary “Shakespeare in Performance” and “Dramatic Literature in Performance” with Kristen Lo. He has taught English at Gunn since 1994. In 2004 he received the Principal’s Cup Award for excellence in teaching. He is a National Board Certified Teacher, and he has published poetry and fiction in national journals. He has performed in Twelfth Night in Shady Shakespeare’s inaugural season and again with Palo Alto Players in 2022. He has also performed as Biff in Death of a Salesman in 2016 and Bert in The Man Who Came to Dinner in 2018, and he has been in every Gunn Choir/Staff Musical Extravaganza.
